Proceedings of the workshop are published in
Gamma Ray Bursts: The First Three Minutes,
1999, ASP Conf. Series, Vol. 190, eds. J. Poutanen and R. Svensson.
After the discovery of GRB afterglows, the prompt GRBs (i.e., the early
gamma ray phase of GRBs), which is still the most mysterious part of the
whole phenomenon, have gotten undeservably small attention. We are
therefore organizing a workshop focusing on the most important and
controversial issues concerning prompt GRBs. We believe that direct
confrontations between the opposite views existing on these issues would be
extremely useful. We therefore propose a program which emphasizes existing
controversies. We suggest that more attention than usual should be paid to
discussions and summaries.
There will be a number of outdoor activities. We are planning to reserve 3
hours in the middle of every day for downhill skiing and trips on
snow-mobiles (scooters). Half a day will be devoted to a long trip on
scooters into the mountains. The nearest mountain is Östfjället, 1200 m
above sea level. The peak is only 4 km from Gräftåvallen.
Normally, there will be 2 people in each cabin allowing for private sleeping
quarters. Each cabin has two rooms and complete bathroom facilities.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide completely private cabins for
those wishing to bring their spouses along.
