Mats Löfdahl has been awarded the Strömer-Ferrnerska award from the
Royal
Swedish Academy. He receives the award for his pioneering
development of techniques to measure and correct for aberrations, mostly
arising in the Earth's atmosphere, in pictures taken using telescopes.
Göran Östlin from the Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University
is also awarded a prize. He is given the Edlundska award for
important work in observational astrophysics, in particular galaxy
formation in the early universe and in the neighbourhood of our galaxy. He
shares his award with Jesper Sollerman, also from the Department of
Astronomy at Stockholm University, who receives the award for
important work in observational astrophysics, particularly
concerning gamma-ray bursts and their connection with supernovae.
