Image of an exoplanet |
|
|
Perhaps this is the first direct image of a planet from another solar system. That is the claim of scientists from the European Southern Observatory who took the image using the Very Large Telescope in the Chilean Atacama desert. The image was taken already last year, but astronomers have now also succeeded in showing that the two objects - the exoplanet and its Brown dwarf star - really are bound to each other. A number of interesting images of distant planets have been circulating lately, but this may truly be the first direct image of an exoplanet. More information about research on the formation of exoplanetary systems at Stockholm Observatory is available here. |
