Large telescope to AlbaNova
|
|
The dome crowning the AlbaNova University Center has long been
lacking a large telescope. This is now about to change. The Knut and Alice
Wallenberg Foundation has donated 2.4 million SEK to be used for a telescope
with a diameter of around 1 meter. The telescope will be used both for
astronomical observations and to measure air pollution using laser echoes.
Naturally, there is no comparison with instruments such as the
Very Large Telescope in Chile, which is regularly used by Swedish
astronomers. But the new AlbaNova telescope will be used to develop new
instruments and for educational purposes.
