The nature of galaxy cluster environments around AGN (M. Wold)

In this project, we investigate the environments around different types of AGN in terms of galaxy clusters. The cluster richnesses are determined as well as the brightnesses and colours of the cluster galaxies. The galaxy clusters around the different AGN classes are then compared in order to test the unified model of radio-loud quasars and galaxies, as well as to investigate the nature of the environmental differences between radio-loud and radio-quiet AGN.

The dynamics of the galaxy clusters is also investigated by using weak gravitational lensing techniques. By measuring the distortion of images of galaxies behind the cluster, a map of the projected mass density in the cluster can be constructed.
