Graduate Courses

The Graduate School at Stockholm Observatory has a programme consisting of 60p courses (40p Basic Courses and 20p Additional Courses) and 100p PhD thesis work. The Basic Courses are given on a rolling two-year schedule and consist of six 5p compulsory courses and two exercises chosen from a menu of numerical and observational exercises. The observational exercises are under development. Some courses are taught in collaboration with, or by, the Physics Dept, Stockholm University. Some courses may also be of the self-study type. During 1999, the following courses were taught:

Basic Courses [Baskurser]

Galaxies: Formation, Structure and Dynamics (5p) Galaxer: Bildning, Struktur och Dynamik (spring, P. Artymowicz)
Cosmology/Astroparticle Physics (5p) Kosmologi/Astropartikelfysik (spring and fall, L. Bergström, Physics Dept.)
Stellar Structure and Evolution (5p) Stjärnornas Struktur och Utveckling (spring, supervised by C. Fransson)

Numerical Exercise in Galactic Dynamics (4p) Tillämpningsuppgift i Galaxdynamik (P. Artymowicz)
